Kait Bey Fortress is built on Faros Island on the ruins of the ancient Alexandria Lighthouse, which was destroyed by an earthquake. The fortress now houses the Naval Museum, featuring exhibits from the Roman Empire and Napoleon's era.
The Alexandria Library is a unique structure with a repository for 8 million books, a manuscript restoration laboratory, a planetarium, three museums, and four art galleries. Reading rooms are located on 11 levels under a transparent dome.
