Overview
On the Giza Plateau in Cairo stand the pyramids, built between 2600-2400 BCE. This ancient complex includes three large pyramids: Khufu, Menkaure, and Khafre, as well as smaller satellite pyramids, which served as tombs for members of the pharaohs' families.
The enigmatic Great Sphinx, carved from a single block of limestone, is a mythical figure with the head of a human, the body and paws of a lion, the tail of a bull, and the wings of an eagle.
The National Museum houses a collection of over 150,000 artifacts, including pharaohs' sarcophagi, mummies, everyday objects, and more.
The Papyrus Institute houses a large collection of ancient Egyptian art.
