Overview
On the Giza Plateau in Cairo stand the pyramids built between 2600-2400 BCE. The ancient complex includes the three great pyramids of Khufu, Menkaure, and Khafre, as well as smaller satellite pyramids that served as tombs for pharaohs' family members.
There's the enigmatic Great Sphinx, carved from a single block of limestone, with the head of a man, the body and paws of a lion, the tail of a bull, and the wings of an eagle.
The National Museum houses a collection of over 150,000 artifacts, including pharaohs' sarcophagi, mummies, household items, and more.
The Papyrus Museum holds a large collection of ancient Egyptian visual art.
