Overview
On the Giza Plateau in Cairo stand the pyramids, built between 2600-2400 BCE. This ancient complex includes the three great pyramids of Khufu, Menkaure, and Khafre, along with smaller satellite pyramids that served as tombs for pharaohs' family members. The enigmatic Great Sphinx, carved from a single limestone monolith, is a mythical figure with the head of a human, the body and paws of a lion, the tail of a bull, and the wings of an eagle.
The National Museum of Cairo boasts a collection of over 150,000 artifacts, including pharaohs' sarcophagi, mummies, household items, and much more. The Papyrus Institute houses a vast collection of ancient Egyptian art.
