Overview
The Monastery of Saint Anthony is the oldest Coptic monastery in Egypt, consisting of a church, monks' cells, several chapels, a bakery, a dining hall, and a library. The church is adorned with frescoes from the 13th century.
About 80 km from the Monastery of Saint Anthony, you'll find another significant church, the Church of Saint Paul. Saint Paul's Church is adorned with frescoes depicting the Virgin Mary with the Child and archangels.
On the monastery grounds, there is a tall tower that stores water from a hidden spring.
