Overview
The Karnak Temple is the most majestic and important temple in Ancient Egypt, dedicated to the god Amun-Ra (the god of the Sun) and his wife Mut (the goddess of the Sky).
An avenue of sphinxes connected the Luxor and Karnak temples, designed for religious processions dedicated to the gods Amun-Ra, Mut, and Khonsu.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, the scarab beetle is a sacred insect, a symbol of solar energy and rebirth in the afterlife.
The Luxor Temple was built during the reign of Pharaoh Amenhotep III and embodies the architectural features of the New Kingdom. The Luxor Temple was ceremonial and hosted large processions that moved along the avenue connecting the temple in Karnak to the Luxor Temple.
