Overview
Mount Moses (Mount Sinai) is a sacred place for representatives of three major world religions. The ascent is traditionally done at night to witness the sunrise from the summit. According to belief, the long nighttime journey up the mountain (3700 steps) is called the "Staircase of Repentance" and is believed to grant forgiveness of sins. At the foot of the mountain lies the Monastery of Saint Catherine, an ancient complex of early Christian structures, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
